Hb FP - Heli problems

Saturday 26th July

Saturday was a cold rainy day with a wind of atleast 8klm. Found a spot about 4pm with very little too no wind. Took the Heli out for a Hover in the backyard. It kept getting Glitches and the rotors spun uncontrolled. Thought it was the battery, changed to the other Lipo. Battery was strong but more Glitches. (Rotor spinning uncontrolled). So I landed the heli.

Then it spun all by itself in wild circles, I rushed to catch it. Heli moved across the grass, into the flower bed, down the water fall and into the Pond.

I retrieved the Heli and removed the battery. Had to dry it. Removed the 4 in 1 receiver and took it apart. Then I noticed the Motor power plug was smelling and the surrounding plastic had melted. I think it short circuited as the motor was running almost full power when it landed in the pond.

After some time drying and cleaning everything. I re-assembled the 4 in 1 receiver and tested it. Could not get the main motor working. So I tested the main motor by it self, it worked. Conducted some more tests and determined that the 4 in 1 receiver no longer controlled the main motor - otherwise, everything else worked.

Sunday 27th July

Started looking on the net for a new 4 in 1 receiver - not cheap - atleast $60. Then I remembered reading about about adding your own Electronic Speed Controller for the Main motor. I had a separate Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) for the Motor which I purchased with the new 370 Super motor for a Honey Bee King. Then, searched the net for instructions on how to install (solder) the ESC to the 4 in 1 receiver (I remember seeing this once). This took some time but I found it - PDF with instructions and diagrams.

My heli now has an external ESC for the Main Motor (see picture). Have been testing the heli without the Blades and it still had glitches. Started to do a few other tests and finally decided to move the location of the aerial wire as far from the Main motor (no reason for this decision) - However, this seems to have stopped the glitches. No idea if this is the real cause or just coincidence.

Monday 28th July

Tested the Heli Monday Night. Seems to work but still getting Glitches! Need to figure out what the cause might be as I do not feel safe flying this Heli now!
